From SEO specialists, marketing experts, lead designers, developers and crack technical teams, content writers, and social media specialists, you'll eventually meet the whole team—and, hopefully, gain a bit of insight into how their dedicated efforts help your online business fly!
Let's start, shall we?
Hi Lillie, thanks for chatting with us today! The clue is probably in the title, but can you tell me a little bit about your role at Sonder?
As Head of Social, I look after all of our social media accounts here at Sonder. Whether that’s organic-only accounts, Meta Ads or a combination of both, I plan and execute the strategy and deliverables that I believe will work best for our clients.
What does a normal working day look like for you?
It’s a cliche, but no day is the same! That’s why I love my job so much. I get to work with a variety of clients in all kinds of industries.
I could be planning a future ad campaign, photographing content for organic posts, filling my days with organic scheduling, strategising for new clients or reviewing current campaign performance.
I will always spend a bit of time every morning making myself aware of what’s happening in the world of social media and any topics that need a quick reaction from any of our clients (including ourselves).
What aspect of your job do you enjoy most?
I love the creative side of my job. The planning, the visuals, making content look pretty! Equally, I love the Meta Ads side of my role. There’s nothing better than seeing a campaign fly and achieve great results for our clients.
Can you tell me about one of the projects you’re working on at the moment—anything you’re particularly sinking your teeth into?
Oooh, there’s many. We’ve recently had a new bathroom installed in our house so I’m making full use of the opportunity to get some new images for our client, Oleo Bodycare. These can then be used for socials, Google Ads and possibly even the website.
I’m also in the process of learning how to build a new website for a client. Having that knowledge will really help in utilising Envelope for any website changes for my client accounts.
Plenty of businesses run their own social media channels. What would say are the main benefits of handing over the accounts to a social media expert?
I think when people hear the words ‘Social Media’ they think that it’s a case of uploading a photo on Instagram and that’s job done. But there is SO much more to it! So many brands have the opportunity to fly on socials, but they haven’t put a strategy in place. Every post needs a reason behind it and each platform requires different tactics for each post. Then there’s Meta Ads, these can take your marketing and sales to the next level!
Basically, there’s a lot to be considered when placing your business on socials. There needs to be a schedule, regularity and a plan to ensure that socials are a key part of your marketing strategy, and it’s a tool that can really help your business when it’s being used correctly.
What do you think is the key to a successful remote-working environment?
Communication. Whether that’s over Slack, the phone, Zoom or in person.
That continual form of communication is beneficial for both professional reasons and personal. Knowing what other people are working on and discussing ideas is where the magic happens!
I’m quite lucky that the majority of the team are all close by, so I find regular meet-ups really helpful.
As Head of Social, which piece of software or app could you not live without?
It would have to be Asana or Meta Business Suite Planner. Both keep me organised and on top of everything that needs doing on a day-to-day basis.
Anyone that knows me knows that I will organise anything that I can!
What gets you through the day: tea, coffee or willpower alone?
Tea, lots and lots of black tea. Plus plenty of cuddles with my cat, Smidge (WFH perks right there.)
As someone who works from home, what is your home office/desk set-up? Do you have one dedicated work spot or do you mix it up throughout the day?
I actually have a fold down desk. That way I can move myself about and change up my days!
Who is the most famous person you’ve ever met?
‘Met’ might be a bit of stretch, but I once sat on the table next to Kate Winslet in a local pub. I didn’t stop talking about it for weeks. (Big fan of ‘The Holiday’ here)
What’s the best thing about your hometown?
I live in Lyme Regis, so I'll have to say: the sea. There’s nothing better than having that on your doorstep.
I also love that you can’t walk through the town without bumping into someone you know. Some people hate that, but I love it.
Here at Sonder, we make sure that every base is covered when it comes to creating an effective, fully-rounded digital marketing strategy. If you'd like to find out more about how we can supercharge your social media output, why not get in touch? We'd love to chat.
